Review highlights

Based on 393 reviews

Japanese Bistro Kamome is widely recognized as a charming and intimate eatery, prized for its authentic Japanese flavors and thoughtfully crafted menu. Customers frequently highlight the bistro’s cozy atmosphere, with limited seating that encourages small groups and a more personal dining experience. The food consistently earns praise for its freshness and home-style quality, particularly the variety of onigiri and udon dishes, which are noted for their generous fillings and balanced flavors. Service is generally described as friendly and attentive, with a prompt pace despite the modest staff size. While the menu breadth impresses many, some feedback mentions certain dishes could benefit from clearer presentation or ingredient balance. Overall, Kamome is regarded as a hidden gem offering satisfying and genuine Japanese cuisine in a relaxed setting.

Loved this little bistro! They have two tables that can fit four people, in addition to bar seats along the window, so make sure to keep your party small. The staff were friendly and kind, patiently waiting for us to review the menu and finally pick a few dishes. We ordered the beef udon combo with the salmon onigiri, as well as a keema curry and an ikura onigiri. All in all, we paid about $30 before tip. The food was tasty! We’ll definitely be back again!

I’ve come here many times and they have some excellent onigiri and lunch options. This lovely Japanese bistro in burnaby is indeed a little gem, they have different specials for each day of the week. Recently tried the udon lunch special with a onigiri. It’s good, simple and tasty. I’ve had the shrimp and mayo onigiri and flaky salmon ones and they are my favourite onigiris.

A very quaint place to visit! It has a very homey feel, and it felt much less stressful than having school just an hour prior. The service was FAST and good. Their riceballs are all made very intricately, and there was a great amount of filling. I felt the poke was somewhat mislabelled, there was so much lettuce I felt more that I was eating a salad that had raw fish and some rice in it. It tasted alright though. I’d definitely want to try one of their sets next time, but unfortunately none were available when I visited.

A hidden gem. I had neither heard of this place nor read about it in articles of top Japanese restaurants, only saw its high rating in Google Maps. The place is small, with only a couple of tables and counters. Despite this, the menu is remarkably wide and the food is consistently excellent. There is only one chef and one waitress. There might be a bit of a wait but it is worth it as the food is not just artfully presented but prepared with perfect technique. The seasoning is on point; the chef is tasting and adjusting her flavour profiles. I rarely finish my miso soup but the one here is so full-bodied and satisfying, seemingly made from scratch (that is, by simmering kelp as opposed to rehydrating from powder), that I eagerly finished every last drop. Final point: Price. You can still get lunch at the $10 price point here. Hallelujah!

This is a very cute and authentic little spot with a surprisingly large selection of everything from appies and smaller bites to set meals. All of the food seems to be made fresh. There was a nourishing home-cooked element to every dish I tried. The ten zaru soba was incredible with different flavor profiles depending on what you add to the sauce throughout eating it. Onigiri was warm and tasty. The genmaicha matcha came with a whole teapot full, which was a nice surprise. The ocha mochi was the perfect ending with rich matcha ice cream, sweet adzuki beans, and soft and bouncy little mochi balls. The server and chef were very friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy. I'm excited to go back and try more dishes!

Real hidden gem in Vancouver. Authentic Japanese homemade foods. There is only a lady on the kitchen, with a server sometimes, so please be kindly patience with your order. The microwave is for pre-prepare food for the day. If she have to cook from scratch, it will take more time than now. All the dishes are freshly made on kitchen and very reasonable, compared to other Japanese restaurants.

when can u ever find food in vancouver for like less than 20$ after tax and tip?! while u can find it here u cant expect it to be good... their rice balls were NOT SEASONED FOR SOME REASON but the filling ratios were acceptable!! their salmon tasted kinda dry but their tuna mayo just tastes like what it sounds like. their chicken skewer just tasted like chicken with teriyaki sauce so it was just boring but edible ig as a coffee hater i was surprised by their drink tho, cuz it tasted pre good but its too sweet overall 2.8/5

An absolutely delightful experience. Chill home-ish vibes for sure. Just go with your heart when ordering. I got the tempura udon which was amazing. Paired that with a pork and beancurd and I think quail eggs. It was so good. And of course I had to try the potato salad. Always get the potato salad! Outstanding!
